A German man’s joke had explosive results at the Stuttgart, Germany airport. After hearing about the Nigerian man attempting to blow up a jetliner on Christmas, he began to joke around that he too, had his underwear full of explosives! Well…not a great time to joke about things like this, especially in front of security at the airport! He, his wife and daughter were detained at the airport and were denied boarding for their flight to Egypt to go on vacation. Needless to say, their whole vacation package was lost, due to that one moment of a brain blip.
Yes, security is not a laughing matter these days. For any Canadian passengers travelling to the US, they are currently being denied any carry-on items onboard a Westjet or Air Canada flight. It has also just been announced that Canada is going to be getting the "naked scanners" at the airports, as early as this spring. At this time, the airports that will have the full body scanners will be Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax. The security system will allow officers to see if a passenger has any explosives on them as they are coming through the scanner. These machines have created some controversy, as it will show 3D images of a person’s naked body. People are being assured that no copies of the pictures will be saved after they proceed through the scanner.
Although the new changes will take a lot to get used to, I believe it will make for a much more streamlined process in the end…and it will also weed out the jokers who are not taking situations like this seriously. I don’t really feel comfortable about this whole thing, and I was wondering if anyone feels the same? Please leave your comments, as I’d like to hear some feedback about this new development in air travel.
