What is the secret to getting the best travel deal? You may be surprised at the answer, and I will tell you what it is: TIMING.
That’s it! It’s all about the timing! There’s really no magic formula to finding the best deal, but it really does come down to your timing and if you are one to search for deals each and every day, you will eventually find them.
It’s almost like that person that keeps on winning prizes on radio stations. We always ask ourselves how do they keep winning, and if you were to ask these people that rack up the prizes month after month, they would tell you they phone the stations everyday. So obviously when you play those odds, they’re eventually going to hit the jackpot!
I remember the day when I was so excited to book flights to visit my family in Winnipeg. I went online and was ready to book at that moment, so that’s exactly what I did! Imagine my surprise when I got an email from Westjet the next day saying that they just announced a seat sale, and the price I paid for my flights yesterday had gone down $100! Had I waited for one day, I could have saved an extra $100.00. What I’m trying to tell you with my example, is that you just don’t know what will happen. We don’t know either, if prices will go up or down. We do not get advised of any sales until the day they occur.
My professional advice to you is that even though timing is a big factor, more so is supply and demand.
Let me explain. If there is a big demand for packages in March and that is what you are looking for, make sure you book when you are ready to lock it in, and if you like the price. If the prices look good to you at that time, go for it. If you wait too long for a deal during a really popular travel time, you may lose out on space. A good idea is to keep in tune with what is happening in the travel industry to get an idea of the trends as well. For example, Mexico has a lot of great deals for winter 2010, to help bring tourism back to the area after the H1N1 scare.
Here’s another rule of thumb to think about: tour operators and airlines normally post sales on weekdays. For example, I always seem to get emails from Westjet on Tuesdays about seat sales.
So,rather than jumping on something right away, give us a call and double check with us if there are any current sales for your destination. That is what we are here for; we have access to many different tour operators and suppliers that offer discounted rates on flights and packages. We receive notice about sales that come up and would be happy to pass on the information to you to help you plan your next vacation at the best price!
